Where should I go if I have to leave my home because of abuse? If you are the victim of spousal assault, your immediate safety is your first priority. You should go where you feel safe. This might be to a trusted neighbour, to family or to an emergency shelter. One problem you might consider in going to a neighbour or family is that your spouse may well know to look for you there. Check your phone book for listings of emergency shelters. They will be listed with other emergency numbers at the front of your phone book.
